This is beautiful, I appreciate the thought for wood movement, exposed and vulnerable grain… I guarantee they were absolutely thrilled and this will last! I’m bummed they’re painting it though, I’d give it a solid coat of exterior oil maybe Osmo and preserve the beautiful piece. I’m obsessed with joinery like what you used so this was a joy to watch and might be something I’ll have to try myself

Beautiful mailbox, I'm sure your client will love and enjoy it for years. I do have a question about your choice of glue for exterior projects; just wondering if you have ever tried using a polyurethane glue? I made an exterior screen door with acrylic 6 pane window insert for winter time use, and installed it with 3 spring hinges so it would "slam" as my wife wanted one that reminded her of one from her childhood. There were no screws or nails but mostly dowel pinned mortise and tenon joints all glued with polyurethane. It wasn't in direct line with the driving rain but showed no signs of weakening joints after several years so I made another for the front of our house. I never owned the house for too much longer so never got to see how that one faired. So I'm wondering if you've ever used this type of glue and how you would compare them? I'm thinking the polyurethane might be a fair bit cheaper and less messy to work with. A bit long I'm afraid but thanks for reading. Love your channel.

Nice mailbox! Please tell your customers to NOT use latex paint. Instead, stick with an exterior alkyd primer and alkyd exterior enamel paint.

The cedar is a good choice. I made one a couple of years ago from Mesquite.

I build a cedar mailbox 25 years ago. Still going strong. Way better than the plastic/metal ones they sell in the big box stores!

great project, while I could see the fingerjoints failing due to grain orientation, it probably wont be an issue thanks to the overall lenght of the fingerjointed side, looks realy neat though.

A perfect way to start my weekend is to watch your video. This time it is even more perfect because I have to make a mailbox and this motivates me to get started.
